The Geneva Motor Show has opened its doors and Ferrari has already left everyone speechless. The LaFerrari model has officially been unveiled today after a long series of spy-shots, leaked photos and teasers. The overall design is simply breathtaking, with 4702mm in length, 1992mm width and a height of 1116mm, the vehicle is nothings short of a masterpiece on four wheels.
Under the bonnet things get even more interesting as the new Ferrari features a 6262cc V12 engine that generates no less than 800 HP – 588 kW at 9,000 rpm and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque at 6,750 rpm. What you might not know is that the supercar also features an electric motor which complements the internal combustion one, and provides an an extra 163 HP – 120 kW and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft). As a result, LaFerrari has a combined output of 963 HP – 708 kW and can rev up to 9,250 rpm. The system is connected to a seven-speed DCT that helps the car accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 3 seconds, 0-200 km/h (0-124 mph) in under 7 seconds and 0-300 km/h (186 mph) in 15 seconds. The vehicle is reaching a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph).
The 1,255 kg (2,766 lbs) supercar has a 41/59 percent weight distribution front/rear and it features a double wishbone suspension in the front while at the back it has a multi-link setup. The massive 19-inch front wheels and the 20-inch ones at the rear come wrapped in 265/30 / 345/30 tires (front/rear). The stopping power is provided by Brembo carbon ceramic brakes measuring 398 x 223 x 36mm front / 380 x 253 x 34 mm rear. Electronic controls include ESC stability control, EF1-TRAC (F1 electronic traction control integrated with the hybrid setup), third-gen differential and magnetorheological damping with twin solenoids.
The famous HY-KERS system weighs only 140 kg (308 lbs) from which 62 kg (136 lbs) stand for the centrally-mounted batteries. Power for the battery pack comes from the regenerative braking system as well as from the excess torque generated by the power unit.
Ferrari confirmed that only 499 LaFerrari units will ever see the light of day, with deliveries expected to start somewhere this autumn. As expected, most of the cars have already been sold, but the few ones available come with a price tag of 1.3M EUR (1.11M GBP or 1.69M USD).
