Kia has presented the 2013 Optima Hybrid which, along with a few improvements, also showcases an upgraded powertrain. Similar to the 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, Kia’s Optima Hybrid features a stronger Hybrid Starter Generator, an upgraded lithium polymer battery and a more powerful electric motor that generates 47 HP – 35 kW.
Thanks to these changes, the total power output of the model has jumped to 199 HP – 148 kW and 318 Nm (235 lb-ft) of torque, from the previous 206 HP – 154 kW and 264 Nm (195 lb-ft) of torque. The 2013 Kia Optima also boasts an improved fuel economy rating of up to 36 mpg city / 40 mpg highway / 38 mpg combined (US).
The vehicle also features other improvements such as a brand new set of restyled alloy wheels, aluminum suspension components, improved underbody aerodynamics and a rear spoiler. It’s also lighter than the previous model and offers additional trunk space as well as a panoramic sunroof (available for the EX version), heated and ventilated front seats, GPS navigation and an eight-speaker Infinity audio system.
