Yes, you’ve read that correctly. Toyota is blowing mouthfuls of hope in the dices for the highly-anticipated Supra successor. The Japanese automaker has announced that the long awaited model will finally be launched by the end of 2017.
Given the fact that the vehicle won’t be available for the next four years, reliable information about it isn’t easy to come by. However, rumor has it that the model will be powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine linked to a hybrid system.
The total output could be in the 400 HP – 298 kW area and if that’s not enough, there has also been speculation of a more powerful hybridized 3.5-liter V6.
As a reminder, the Supra successor will be the offspring of both Toyota and BMW which have recently combined forces on an upcoming hybrid project. The Supra will be built on a revised version of the GT 86 platform and will feature suspension tuning by BMW.
Notably, Toyota’s chief engineer, Mr. Tetsuya Tada has already confirmed the company’s intention to launch the car as soon as possible, which might indicate a possible preview at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show.

I guess that tuners will have to step-up their game if they want to churn-out more power from this rumored hybrid system. Watch this space for more details.
